One of the security personnel attached to the former Minister of Aviation and Senator-elect of Anambra North Senatorial District, Princess Stella Oduah, has been arrested by Anambra State Police Command for shooting and injuring two persons in Umuodu, Ochuche in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
Though a version of the story alleged that three persons were killed by security personnel attached to the senator-elect, but the state police command yesterday said no life was lost and that it was not a policeman that shot and in juried the two persons, but one of the vigilante operatives attached to the former minister.
Trouble according to Saturday Sun’s investigation started when youths from Umuodu stormed a dredging site in the village allegedly bought by Oduah to stop some people dredging on the land, claiming that the former minister had not paid compensation to the community for that purpose as it was the custom.
It was gathered that in the process, both camps had altercations and a message was sent to Princess Oduah who allegedly deployed her security personnel to the site.
Our source said on getting to the site, the youths told the security operatives made up of police and vigilante, why the dredging should not go on and “instead of going to report back to the woman, they opened fire and started shooting sporadically and in the process this harm was caused.”
The source further said, “I believe they acted on instruction because the villagers have been requesting Princess to pay the usual compensation but she refused and maybe thought she could have her way by force.”
Confirming the incident, which took place on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Uche Ezeh (DSP), stated that no life was lost but the two persons, Chuka Okechukwu and Chukwuebuka, both from Ochuche, who were injured were taken to Ogbaru General Hospital for treatment.
Ezeh also confirmed that it was not the police that perpetrated the dastard act, rather, a vigilante security man allegedly attached to Princess Oduah, adding that the culprit had been arrested by the police.
