The Nigerian military said it has recovered thousands of Euro currency on the body of a terrorist commander after troops successfully repelled the insurgents on Mafa towards the Nigerian border with Chad.

A statement from the Defence Headquarters said that the terrorist who is also an Amir by status and believed to be of foreign descent, was among 30 terrorist fighters who died in the encounter with Nigerian soldiers.

Major General Chris Olukolade, the Defence spokesman said many terrorists fled the battle front with bullet wounds.

He said in the statement that the terrorists also lost a number weapons and equipment including the captured 13 rifles, a machine gun, rocket propelled grenade tubes and several other assorted ammunition.

The Defence Headquarters said a Toyota Bufallo vehicle was also recovered from the terrorists, adding that Two of the insurgents armoured vehicles were also destroyed in the battle.

The statement said: “The only casualty on the side of own troops was a damaged equipment. Mopping up operations is ongoing in the general area.

“Meanwhile, the offensive on all terrorists hideouts is continuing in many fronts.”
